The Societat Catalana de Geografia SCG (Catalan Geographic Society) was founded in 1935
as a branch of the Institut d'Estudis Catalans (Institute of Catalan Studies)
and annexed to its Department of Sciences. The Society was created by Eduard Fontseré
in the 1920´s context of methodological renovation of Catalan geography. Under the

The governing board of the Society encourages the spread of its activities to all
the realities and aspects of the Catalan country. These activities have involved
in the last years, some field trips that provide to geographers and other people
interested in these topics, the opportunity to take part actively.

In 1947, the
SCG undertook again its activities but this time in a clandestine way. Finally, in
1968 the Society's works and activities were presented publicly hosted by Omnium
Cultural. At the end of the dictatorship, in 1976, the SCG together with the
Institute d'Estudis Catalans, recovered their traditional location in the ancient
Hospital de la Santa |
