From 16,4 to 11,2 million-year, after the sedimentation of the paleogenic materials and until mid Miocene, the strong folding of the Pyrenees produced some upwarps which are often sharp, sometimes partially faulted and always separated by wide, soft downwarps in the district of Bages too. While the upwarps were generated, the underlaying evaporites spread to their nucleus in the so-called diapiric process. In Cardona, the saline geological formation originally located some hundred-meters depth, nowadays emerges as a consequence of this process. |
